Less than 24 hours after the GOP flipped a congressional district in South Texas, several Latino Democrats cornered their campaign chief on the House floor with a fervent plea: It’s time for the party to make a crucial course correction.
Republicans blew up more than a century of almost uninterrupted Democratic control in that region Tuesday night, earning a special election win in a heavily Latino border district they had rarely even contested since its creation in 2012 - but where the GOP has made rapid gains in the last few years.
That trend has been on Democrats’ minds since former President Donald Trump cut deep into the party’s margins in the Rio Grande Valley in 2020. But national Republicans poured money into the special election in this 85 percent Latino district from the beginning.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and its allies, meanwhile, only made a small investment at the end, despite requests from members to get involved earlier.
“I hope the DCCC learns their lesson with this before it happens across the country,” said Democratic Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, who due to redistricting will face GOP Rep.-elect Mayra Flores this fall in a redrawn district.
“They have just forgotten about the brown people on the border,” Gonzalez continued. “And that’s basically what it is. I’m not going to try to sugarcoat it anymore. They are taking Latinos in South Texas for granted.”
When the House convened Wednesday afternoon, several members approached DCCC Chair Sean Patrick Maloney. Democratic Reps. Sylvia Garcia and Veronica Escobar, whose Texas districts are also predominantly Latino, were among them. Garcia said she requested a meeting next week and that Escobar, Gonzalez and fellow Democratic Reps. Henry Cuellar and Joaquin Castro all plan to attend.

I'm goin' with food fight.
Demographics is destiny. Texas will remain red forever and nothing can stop it.
To quote Mark Twain: “The demise of Texas had been greatly exaggerated”
well now that the latinos are waking up to the fact that people of color really doesnt include them and they have ZERO desire to bankroll the ghetto culture, then yeah, human nature will take it’s course.
just like in prison, which is the LCD of human behavior—notice how it’s almost usually the latinos vs. black gangs inside those walls.
When Joy Reid and Bob Lemon get what the war they want, they gonna realize that most of the “minority” groups in America be in the puerto ricans, mexicans, cubans, sihks, Asians, dot-Indians. and any other ethnic group that exists in America, will NOT be on their side.
And dont expect the motherland countries of Mozambique, Congo, and Equatorial Guinea to come to their oppressed brothers aid here!
Not to pick nits but you paraphrased Twain...
Lol.
Any idiot who thought that the Latino vote would be handcuffed to the Democratic Party...was missing the ‘big picture’. This same issue will occur in California by 2024, with probably 75-percent of Latinos going to the GOP....if they offer decent candidates.
If I was Reagan, my reply would be that he paraphrased me. (Reagan with his “how old he was” jokes).
The Republicans need to change course in their messaging. Loose the suburban Karen’s and go after the Hispanics ny driving home that the dems want to tell your boys and girls to change their sex. Drive that home. Let the suburban karens pound sand. Of course the cocktail DC Republicans don’t want to take the fight to the dems and be vilified on NPR.
They have to offer decent candidates and loose the elite white rich Republican image and show some fight for values that matter to the Hispanics and that align with the conservative base....you know, the big tent stuff, but not the big tent that relies on becoming even more democratic.
And you need to learn the difference between “Lose” and “Loose”.

Ha! Everybody ripped off Methuselah at some point.
I guess the voters in that district seem to think Republicans care more about the border than the Democrats. Sadly, those voters are mistaken.
There have only been a couple of folks, on the Republican side that care about the border. Tancredo is/was one of them.
The other one had illegal immigration and asylum seekers down to historic lows. He had refugee numbers down so low that the resettlement scam artists were in danger of going out of business.
He’s gone. Cheated by a small handful of crooked and deceitful Republicans and Democrats in 4 or 5 states. And now we’re all
Paying for it.
“They are taking Latinos in South Texas for granted.”
What a bigoted thing to say.
The Democrats’ endless covidian assault on freedom, environmental extremism, race baiting, and sexual perversion is biting them in the ass! I hope they don’t get “smart” all the sudden and keep their black supremacists, covidians, gun grabbers, Marxist climate scammers, and groomers who want to chemically castrate little children quiet until after November...
He outlived all of his descendants other than Noe and his sons and managed to die only weeks before the flood. As such, he got a decent send-off, and did not drown in agony. A win in the end.
Texas does not have Dominion. If that ever changes, we are doomed.
Hispanics will tolerate a lot of Dem nonsense, but the Dems trying to turn their sons into maricons and their daughters into queer putas crosses every cultural redline. They won’t go back to the Dems.
I’ve said it before......if by opening the door and letting in tens of millions of Hispanics over the last 30-40 years, instead of securing a long term Democrat majority the Democrats instead ensured a long term Republican majority, I will laugh and laugh and laugh.
Karma will have bitten them right in the ass.

The Latinos are increasingly aware that they will be “second class” minorities under Democrats. The ones that want a job and the American Dream will vote Republican.
