Nothing like watermelon salad to offend people. Same for bananas. All watermelons and bananas must be taken off the market at once! Their very existence “offends” people. Also, euthanize all monkeys! or at least rename them to Indigenous Primates.

The insanity is uncureable.

The corner store is selling crackers and white bread. I want an apology and reparations.

watermelon has historically been used as a racist trope against Black Americans.

And it is summer when all kinds of watermelon is enjoyed by Americans.

An odd situation. The blacks didn’t emancipate themselves. That white guy Lincoln made the emancipation official and a lot of white soldiers died to make it happen.

But it’s Black-honoring holiday. Now Blacks have two, the other being Martin Luther King day. We don’t hear much about Martin or his beliefs these days. Has he been pushed aside by the rappers?

Some people where I work are upset that our employer doesn’t give Juneteenth as a holiday.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo

“Celebrations began in California, where they have been observed annually since 1863. The day gained nationwide popularity beyond those of Mexican-American heritage in the 1980s due to advertising campaigns by beer, wine, and tequila companies; today, Cinco de Mayo generates beer sales on par with the Super Bowl.”

That only works with Chinese kids. I mentioned that to a few exchange students we had over here and they thought it was funny.

It’s time for corporations to worry about their shareholders.

Period.

Thin skinned meddle-aged women of all races need to give the rest of us a break...

Back then news didn’t travel as fast as it does today. If only we could establish holidays based on when we heard important news. Maybe when we are freed from this medical tyranny & the vaccine nightmare!

If they wouldn’t have had watermelon there, the negroes would have been pissed off. By having it there they can both enjoy eating it, (which they really do) and be able to bitch about it being racist at the same time. Best of both worlds for them.

Actually four slave states remained in the Union. Then the federal government let some dissidents in northwestern Virginia carve out a new state and legitimated it by getting the approval of the fake “loyal” government of Virginia. In many counties in the southern part of West Virginia, no one voted in the 1864 US election because the people there still considered themselves to be part of Virginia. There were also legal questions about how Jefferson Co. and Berkeley Co. (now the two most easterly counties of WV) got added to West Virginia—that case went all the way to the US Supreme Court.

Is that to say that black people don't eat watermelon today? I find it very hard to believe that that's true.

Maybe I’ll score some sparklers this weekend to pay homage to ‘ol sparky for sending the Rosenbergs to their reward on June 19th, 1953...isn’t that what it’s all about?

Watermelon is great on a hot south Texas day. Good way to re-hydrate.

JuneTeenth was a great homegrown holiday, with very local parades and more than a few parties. Very much like Cinco de Mayo.
Then big government & big business got involved. Now it is nothing more than Virtue Signaling.
