Thanks va
Juneteenth celebrations have been in Galveston for a very long time, but it stayed an island thing. Then it spread to the mainland. I remember news stories about it in the 1970’s in the Houston area.
I think it was first called ‘Jubilee Day’ in Texas.
Yes, but it is amusing to see virtue-signalers get shot down one in awhile.
Well, what did they expect? Turn something into a national holiday and marketing takes over. They do that with every national holiday.
Guess it never made it to West Texas (thankfully). (I was thinking that it probably started around Houston.. it would fit right in)
‘People were very offended’:
Who cares? But what else is new?
Of course they do, but it’s seen as a racist stereotype nonetheless.
If I say “white people can’t dance”, that is a racist stereotype, even if some white people, or even an awful lot of white people actually can’t dance.
I love watermelon. If you are from the south, chances are you grew up loving it.
There was always a blues festival in Dallas/Deep Ellum every year since I can remember. Good music and food.
I concur.
Personally, I'm glad the Christian abolitionist movement won the argument against slavery, over both the so-called "enlightenment" movement (who were mostly pro-slavery) and the Democrat Party (who literally fought a war to keep blacks in chains). Every time the left brings up slavery us Christians should poke our chests out and tell them that if they hate slavery so much they should thank a Christian for slavery being abolished in the western world.
I don’t care who you are. Watermelon salad for Juneteenth is funny.
Hyphenated last name people are always offended about something.
I don’t need much of an excuse, I think I’ll get a watermelon!
“Yep, the best way to celebrate Juneteenth is to serve sliced watermelon and fried chicken. Oh… and let’s not forget to schedule twerking and rap contests.”
“Is that to say that black people don’t eat watermelon today? I find it very hard to believe that that’s true.”

Have you checked the price of watermelon lately? Not too long ago our local CostCo priced their fairly decent sized watermelons at $4.99 each. This morning they have TINY watermelons priced at $7.99 each.
THANK YOU BRANDON!
In my East Coast experience, I never heard of “Cinco de Mayo” until c.2000.
Well, some people here don’t seem to know that well-dressed men in the deep South have traditionally worn white suits in Summer - if not Seersucker.
I guess everything is not only politics, but geography too.
