Good to know in case the sun ever dies we can grow food. /sarcasm
Especially powered by the solar panels they mentioned.
Anyone else find it odd they mentioned without sun and solar panels in the same solution?
With nuclear or geothermal energy sources humans now have the means to survive a KT scale impact event living deep underground as the century long atmospheric destruction clears up. This makes us the first species to have this ability. It also allows for humans to colonize the stars since fusion or fission power can be used to grow food in deep space far from the Sun. Given that plants are at best 1% efficient in converting sunlight into chemical bonds and solar panels are 25+% efficient at turning a photon into electrons it’s a huge leap in the amount of chemical energy in the form of edible carbon per square meter of sunlight. This is nothing short of a quantum leap in human innovation. The ramifications can and will be immense. Exciting times we live in.
They better figure out a way to grow plants without CO2 if the filthy democrats have their way.
I think it’s more for urban use. Those rooftops are usually surrounded by taller buildings, which block sunlight.
Also, to be used in warehouses/underground.
