I've got no dog in this fight (except to see our Country succeed) but people make mistakes and the smart ones learn from them. Also, have you ever met a person who quit smoking, drinking, etc.? They're some of the most anti-smoking/drinking advocates there are. Sometimes the people who've lived through something and seen the error of their ways actually have a better perspective.
As is pointed out from time to time, Jesus is not running for office.
