Bison gores man near Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park

A Colorado man was gored by a bull bison near Giant Geyser at Old Faithful on Monday, June 27, 2022, according to Yellowstone National Park (YNP).

YNP said in a media release the 34-year-old man from Colorado Springs was walking with his family on a boardwalk when the bull bison charged the group.

I’ve visited Yellowstone on a couple of occasions, though not for years.

Got the usual warning about not getting out of your cars to approach the animals. Which is very good advice.

Saw plenty of bison and a few bear, but none around lots of people and none on the boardwalks.

Jeez louise. Those critters are just getting too comfy being around people...

Funny, we just drove by Yellowstone and the gigantic digital traffic sign said ALL entrances to Yellowstone are closed. Weird. The truth is even hard to come by in this instance as well.

There are five entrances to the park:

North
Northeast
East
South
West

The North and Northeast are closed until TDB from massive flooding.

The other three entrances are open — the West entrance takes you to Old Faithful where this story apparently is based.

Willing to bet this group was like a lot of folks that get on those boardwalks, and assume that the animals are somehow ‘trained’ not to bother them.

Unfortunately, these same folks don’t understand that THEY have been trained to think of man-made structures as ‘safe zones’ - the wildlife gives two squats about those structures.

There is a reason that the term ‘touron’ exists - the ‘tourist moron’.
