Most car buyers simply do not want EVs or even hybrids. GM, Ford and VW have made huge capital investments that simply will never turn a profit and will be a constant drag.
They’re not worried.
I’m sure they think taxpayers will be forced to cover any losses.

I think my next car will by a hybrid.
I want nothing to do with an electric vehicle and having to plug in all the time. However, I’ve driven hybrids a few times, including rentals, I am amazed by how well they are able to recover kinetic energy back into the system that is wasted on braking in normal combustion driven vehicles. The nice thing about a hybrid is that your batteries are recharged either by recovered energy or from the combustion engine, and you aren’t on the short-leash to the electric grid.

My favorite car salesman has been telling me for some time that he’s experience big push back from customers over the EVs.
I suspect the reason GM/Ford/ETC are pushing EV hybrids is because the increases in the fuel/mileage standards.
Its not the automaker's fault, they have been forced into managing their planned decline by the WEF Oligarchs via financial blackmail and Administrative State regulation.
Refusal to comply with the WEF/ESG worldview would result in a sell off of Institutional stock holdings (ie. Blackrock, pension funds, etc) coupled with Governmental lawsuits and fines for failing to meet capricious regulations (i.e. CAFE, emissions, etc).
Why is everyone negative on hybrids? We purchased a RAV 4 hybrid about a month ago, 43 MPG, great look and great performance, and a base price of 32K.

True that!
The EV batteries will be a forever problem, with both safety and environmental impact with the battery’s life-cycle. Just watch how fast they burn when they ignite:
