Unless the foster kids parents are dead or both parents signed over total custody permanently, you could be in an Indian Giver position for years. Even then, some relative could pop out of the woodwork and claim they were designated as custodians but will relinquish custody for a price.
We adopted a little girl (3 1/2) from foster care. Her birth mother was on drugs. That’s how lots of kids end up in foster care.
No doubt at all adopting from foster care can be a blessing.
I gave birth to a child with special needs, there are no guarantees. I love him dearly and he is a gift. Knowing how much effort and energy it has taken to raise him, the difficulties for my other children, I cannot blame anyone who is leery of deliberately taking on the burden.
No guarantees, anything can happen to anyone, anytime, and the family must cope, praying for strength and grace. May God grant that to you, and bless you for answering His call.
Perfecto
Yeah, the divorce rate for parents of special needs kids is sky high. We just celebrated our 505h anniversary. But it has taken a toll on us raising them.
Just spent the weekend with extended family who have two Fos-Adopt kids. Not perfect kids, but wonderful, loving, healthy kids. Both were born with meth in their system. We are lucky to have these children in our family.
(Yes the parents did have a traumatic situation with a baby they had to “give back” after they thought he was theirs. )
It’s too bad Mark wasn’t aborted.
Hamill, GFY...
Better dead than adopted? You first, Mark.
