Good grief, it got up to 109° yesterday here in Central Texas. These might grow now, but I'm not sure I want to be out in the yard working in the garden in this heat.

Tomatoes. “Hot house” grown.

(Fun fact, an author wrote that there was a time in history “when one could have grown tomatoes on the north pole” - the author’s way of stating that the globe then was much hotter than it is now, because, the fact that tomatoes really like heat is supposed to be self-evident.)

100 ain;t so bad. and It’s not the heat . . .

Block the blazing sun, from the plants and the soil, and keep the plants hydrated (humidity).

Like Don Corleone had with his tomato plants in the back yard, just before his heart attack.

Don’t soak the roots in full sun, that will cook the plant.

Now what to grow in 30 degree weather, that’s a real challenge.

“It is a universe of one: Okra.”

Yep. My tomato plants and beans are dying from too many days over 100. My watermelons and okra are doing fine. We’re getting rain but all it does is boil the plants.

The hotter and dryer the better for okra.

We grew cowpeas this year for fodder.

It has been mostly hot and dry but they are doing nicely.

That’s why you get up at dawn and do a little work before it gets blazing hot. Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noon day sun.
