FLASHBACK: Starbucks chairman announces free bathrooms and table space for the homeless
May 11 2018

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3654446/posts

The ever well meaning Starbucks chairman, Howie Schultz, more terrified of bad publicity and claims of racism than anything in the world, has just announced a rather customer-unfriendly policy of opening Starbucks bathrooms (as well as table space) to all comers, including people who won’t spring for a $4 cup of coffee. Speaking to the Atlantic Council, Schultz said:

“We don’t want to become a public bathroom, but we’re going to make the right decision a hundred percent of the time and give people the key,” Schultz said, “because we don’t want anyone at Starbucks to feel as if we are not giving access to you to the bathroom because you are less than.”

Well, yes, you do, Howie. If you open the bathrooms to all comers, including non-paying customers, you’re turning Starbucks into a public bathroom. The fact that Starbucks will be the only business with such a policy means that all of the homeless will concentrate in these outlets. Rival store-owners and social service agencies will actually direct the homeless to Starbucks outlets for the free services. Large groups will congregate, moms with strollers drinking lattes and buying their little ones apple sauce in packets will sit cheek to jowl with hardcore drug-addicted homeless and now entertain requests for spare change.

This was all predictable at the time Starbucks started allowing anyone to use their restrooms.

Anyone can choose to patronize Starbucks, or not to.

Schultz has not paid any price. I have not read that he has been caned. So, nope, no punishment yet for his Godless philosophy.

There used to be public restrooms in New Orleans back in the early 1970’s. It is a bit of a problem when there is nowhere to go if you have to.

On the other side of the coin you can just do it French style and pee on the sidewalk. Yes, that’s exactly what I saw the very first time I went there.

Starbucks is a great racket. High prices for sugared coffee drinks.

A cup of freshly ground, organic coffee, brewed at home, is much better, and much, much cheaper.

Worse tasting coffee anyways which proves you don’t always get what you pay for.

About 15 years ago or so I was in a Starbucks in Boston with my young daughter. We purchased food there and we were waiting for the restroom to open. It took forever and everyone in line was wondering why the person inside was taking so long. After quite a long while the door opened and two young men walked out. I was aghast. I didn’t even want to go in there after that.

A company gets the unions that it deserves. Despite leftist union busters, the employees in the blue core areas are opting for representation to protect them from their elitist overlord.

$5.00 fr overpriced burnt coffee is BS. McDonalds has coffee for $1.09 out the door. Plus McDonalds has the same crappy service as Starbucks.

I've worked in NYC a number of years and here's a tip: Almost all establishments have a restroom for their customers to use, even if they have a sign stating "no public restrooms".

This is just to keep out the riff-raff.

If you are clean, well-dressed and conduct a transaction there, they will 9 times out of 10 give you access to a restroom if you politely and discreetly ask.

Homeless are a problem with public libraries, where they'll probably return now that SB has basically closed its doors. (At least the restroom doors.) I used to see drunks, perverts hanging around the stacks.

I work at a college library. Before COVID we used to get people asking to study or read there because they were avoiding the public libraries.

Everyone here at FR should make a sign and hangout in front or nearby Starbucks, or homeless shelter and generate more foot traffic... once a month by just a few thousand do goodness could help this CEO “out”!
