I consider myself as one who keeps up with things, but this pronoun thing — I can’t find the ends of the thread to figure just what the hell is going on with pronouns. I must have not been paying attention when it burst upon the scene, fully mature and no one thinking it needs to be explained, like a sunrise.
It is totally, completely, insane. Are English teachers no longer allowed to teach pronoun-antecedent agreement? How did all the great authors throughout human history manage to miss this critical concept?
