Not since the gruesome heyday of HIV/Aids has a virus been such a threat to the lives of men who have sex with men.

Monkeypox has a mortality rate of 3.6%. It's not a threat to the lives of homosexuals like HIV/AIDS was.

it’s not so much a threat to their lives, as you said, but a threat to their appearance and desirability.

Even gay men are turned off by other men covered in bumps.

Thus, it’s an existential threat to them.
