The last thing the Democrats want is for SCOTUS to throw out a federal AWB and thereby nullifying every state and local AWB that has been enacted.
It was passed with the understanding that it would die in the senate. They're throwing a bone to their base, that's all.

Maybe so, but they are also activating Second Amendment supporters, and educating new gun owners about how dangerous Democrats are to their rights.
The House of Representatives passes all manner of ridiculous knee jerk legislation. This particular joke is in violation of Heller. It has no chance in the senate and even if it did the Democrats know full well the Supremes will slap it down.
Don’t worry. The democrats and swamp only want ‘us’ dead to perfect the nation in all its marxist glory.
Well they are welcome to try but I bet 99.9999% of them don’t have a hair on their butt to do it themselves. They would order, assign, or delegate but they won’t lift a finger themselves other than to pick a pen.
