That’s the plan.
It was already old in 1968 as detailed by Norman Mailer in his award winning The Armies of the Night and Miami and the Seige of Chicago. Two of my favorite books. Not that I agree with old time college leftists. Just the writing and anti-government stance.
One scene had a guy who Mailer sensed didn’t fit in. He tried to goad Mailer into a fist fight. He refused just in time and slipped out of the trap. The plan was other agents would pounce on the “fighters” and keep Mailer in jail for a week to cut him down. But the other FBI agents provocateur did nefarious and violent things (and were quietly released from jail after a few hours) to get others in trouble for opposing the Dem Convention for Humphrey’s nomination.
