People die doing adventurous things. There's nothing shameful in that. I hope to meet my own death out in the woods on a long winter hike with wolves closing in. It would be the way that I want to go as opposed to being in some hospital bed hooked up to a ventilator. But hopefully that is still decades away.

When my grandfather was ill (emphysema and lung cancer) he used to go out to the hunting cabin he shared with several of his friends, leave a note saying, “I’m going for a walk east down the creek and then across Joe’s pond dam to the woods,” etc.

He hoped he would die in the woods, but he wanted his body to be found.
