Missing from this is the simple factual point:
NOBODY KNOWS WHAT TAX LAWS APPLY AND THE DETAILS OF THOSE LAWS.
The U.S. federal tax laws are so complicated, no honest taxpayer can actually figure them out.
IRS agents DO NOT NEED TENS OF THOUSANDS OF FIREARMS as recently authorized by federal law unless they plan on having many gun battles with taxpayers.

They are going after the underground income. People who deal in cash and barter. They will take an assessment of whether the reported income supports the lifestyle and impute an income. The taxpayer will get a bill. Good luck.
