Russia cuts off gas exports to Europe via Nord Stream indefinitely
CNN Business ^ | Uliana Pavlova and Anna Cooban

Russia won’t immediately resume exports of natural gas to Europe through its Nord Stream 1 pipeline, worsening a shortage that threatens to tip the continent into an energy crisis this winter.

On Friday, Russian state energy giant Gazprom said it would not resume flows through the pipeline on Saturday as planned because it had detected an oil leak at its Portovaya compressor station. The pipeline has been shut since Wednesday for maintenance.

It didn’t give a timeline of when exports might resume.

🆕Due to the energy crisis, the British will be banned from cooking until eight in the evening and pubs will only work until nine. People will be prohibited from using washing machines, dishwashers and ovens between 2pm and 8pm. Pubs will turn off lights at 9pm and last orders will be taken at 8.30pm (c) Daily Mail

60% of factories could close due to rising electricity prices (c) Bloomberg.

British media:

Today it emerged that Britons could be asked to limit energy use this winter to head off blackouts by avoiding using gas and electricity at peak times in a move that will hit every part of life. At home people may be encouraged not to use washing machines, dishwashers and ovens between 2pm and 8pm while charging cars before 9pm is also not advised when similar measures were imposed in the US this year. Abandoning the family weekday dinner at 6pm or the Sunday roast at 5pm may be required and moved to after 8pm or swapped for a cold dinner or leftovers.

There is new information from Gazprom about the Nordstream 1 pipeline shutdown. They are saying that oil leaks has been detected in three turbines, and that the only place these turbines can be repaired is only in Canada.

This war is showing the blatant idiocy, and enormity behind the globalism canard.

The past 30 years of globalization has lowered the West’s standard of living by orders of magnitude.

Now most of Europe is at the mercy of bad actors like Putin. And the rest of us at the mercy of China for many staples of life, like medicine.

Way to go globalist scum.

100% correct, and when globalism is joined with the belligerence and interventionism of neoconservativism, we have a looming disaster.

Huge, if they don’t find a way out of this. I assume, but we will have to wait and see, that they are going to try to remove whatever sanctions are preventing Siemens from making the repairs.

But, and this is a big but....it could be that Russia will use this as a way to avoid having to supply any more gas to Europe.

Russia has to this point stuck to performing based on contracts. But, this could provide a legal way out of that for them. And they have had it with Europe and would welcome the opportunity to exit the contracts (except for friendly countries like Hungary, etc.)

Yes, and lowered by three years the life expectancy. The left calls it progress. It’s progressed into the crapper.

And in those three fewer years, people are fatter, popping more pills, eating more fast food, and getting drunk & high more.

This works both ways and is really short term. Over the next several months, it definitely hurts Europe. The other side is, declining oil revenues cut Russia's funding for the war. Long term, the rest of thew world will boost production and Europe gets its energy from other countries.

Politically, Russia has destroyed any trust it has to do business with Europe. If Europe can't trust Russian energy supplies, they will get it and keep getting it from other countries. This will hurt Russia's economy long term.

There is no point in buying energy from Russia, when high energy prices means Russia has a the wealth to invade another country.

the G7 announced the introduction of a price ceiling for Russian oil in December. Today, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the need for a ceiling on prices for Russian gas as well.

Russian officials (Medvedev, Peskov and Novak) said the day before that in this case, the Russian Federation simply would not supply on non-market terms.

Globalists know that such measures can unbalance the world energy market, and yet this does not stop them.

The main victims of oil at $200 and gas at $5,000 will again be the EU countries. Households in the UK and the EU are already dreading winter as utility bills rise. The introduction of new measures in the middle of winter could deprive Europeans of heat, hot water and food at affordable prices.

This is so risky and dangerous that the markets refuse to believe it. Neither the price of oil nor the value of the ruble reacted to the news.

Most likely, the announced measures will remain on paper, and today’s announcement of new measures is an imitation of the vigorous activity of our partners, in search of effective mechanisms against the Russian economy.

China, Iran, and India will buy it.

What’s that, 2.48 billion people?

Russia’s biggest problem, not in the short term, is its demographic heading.

Sounds like an excuse for EU to go to war. War is essentially about taking other’s stuff.

When one isn’t using capitalism to aquire things the only other option is war and pillaging.
