In the early 1970s, I got a transistor radio (that's what they were called in those days). One of those Radio Shack specials with the 9 volt battery and an earplug. As it was AM only, no need for having it in both ears as there was no stereo.

Anyway, I used to keep it under my pillow when I went to bed and would listen to a lot of Red Sox games (as well as Bruins games) while my parents thought I was sleeping.
