Collaborators Trapped: People With Russian Passports Issued In Ukraine Not Allowed Into Russia

Kilometre-long queues have formed at the Ukrainian-Russian border, which is controlled by militants from occupied Donbass and Russians.

Huge queues have appeared on the border with Russia of people fleeing because of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' counter-offensive. However, the Russians are simply not letting the collaborators through. Border guards have a clear instruction not to allow people with Russian passports issued in Ukraine's occupied territories to enter Russian territory.

In particular, Russian soldiers and their families left the town of Svatove in Luhansk Region. Only soldiers of the so-called "people's militia" from among local residents stayed.

Military expert Oleh Zhdanov has said this

"They (the collaborators - Ed.) have nowhere to flee to. Russian border guards, as it turned out, they have the numbers and series of Russian passports that were issued in Ukraine on their computers. And those who show a passport of a Russian citizen issued on Ukrainian territory are not allowed into the aggressor country. That is why there are kilometre-long queues," Zhdanov said.

The Ukraine is on the cusp of re-conquering the Luhansk Republic. When that happens there is really going to be hell to pay.

Do you mean the torture and murder of civilians as usual by the Ukrainian nazis?

Asking for a friend.

let me make sure that I have this right.

Russia encourages and supports the breakaway provinces of Lugansk and Donetsk (Donbas) in 2014...

These provinces are largely populated with ethnic Russians...

In order to travel, Russia, through their allies in the Donbas, issue Russian passports to those who want them...

Russia is getting expelled from the province just north of Lugansk, and it looks like the Ukrainian forces are moving into Lugansk proper...

The residents of the Donbas, who supported Russia and separation from Ukraine, want to get out of the way of the oncoming Ukrainian hordes by fleeing into Russia...

...and Russia will not honor the passports that they issued 8 years ago?

I guess now know how the Russians feel about the Ukrainians.

Russian Supremacists think they are a slavic master race and that all Ukrainians are beneath them.

Well, they are of no use to Russia if they flee to Russia. But if they are forced to stay in Ukraine they can fulfill Putin’s purpose of keeping the door open for further Russian aggression under the excuse of “defending ethnic Russians”.

I wonder if they’ll get ‘10ers’ (term from the “Gulag Archipelago)” when they return to Russia? Those were the 10-year labor camp sentences Russian soldiers got for surrendering to the Germans in WWII. I think Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn got one.

Solzhenitsyn got his gulag sentence for making a remark critical of Stalin in a letter he sent home.

I think Russia has modernized some, the internet, phones, TV, travel, their young are a little like the Western young and I don’t think the government will totally crush them like the old 1940s Russians did and would, because they just can’t be so excessive today without all kinds of push back from the people

I get the impression that the brutality and cruelty of the Russian establishment are relative to the times and what they can pull off in today’s climate, they probably do some of what they used to, but can only get away with doing it on a tiny scale, they can send messages and tighten the screws but they can’t take away a million people at once.

Agree!

I really don’t think the Russian population would react well to a return of a Soviet lifestyle. I think they’ve got used to having things on the shelves in stores, relative ease in travel, use of cell phones, etc. In short, an almost European style of life. This would be particularly unpopular with young, educated Russians. You’re seeing that now with the dramatic rise in them emigrating.

It sounds almost like the Russians didn’t invade Ukraine to protect these people after all. I wonder what their motivation could have really been.
