You used to need to learn how to receive and send Morse code to pass the test for a ham license. However if memory serves that requirement may have been dropped recently but am not certain.

That requirement was dropped in 2006.

Passed my 12 wpm Morse code test at age 14..at the official testing center in London.

Fortunately my school science club had a ham radio teacher who helped
