hese sandhill cranes weren't going to let Hurricane Ian intimidate them and stood tough against the storm's powerful winds in Florida.
Casey Clifton posted video to Twitter on Thursday of the birds in Lakewood Ranch nearly being blown away as Ian tore through the state.
"Sandhill cranes trying to hunker down during Hurricane Ian. I wanted to bring them home," he wrote.

Wow, it’s like they were built for strong winds.
Great video but listen to it without the sound.
The whining by the females in the background is really annoying.
Not gonna mess with those birds!
There Florida Sandhill Cranes for crying out loud. This is not their first rodeo.
I agree. I heard someone say that was sad. I didn’t think it was sad. Nature at work. They would have to do that whether we were around or not.
I was about to say the same. Twits.
My niece just moved to Lakewood Ranch from SoCal. She’s living in a rental in Bradenton while her house is being built. It was supposed to take 8 months but no telling how long it’ll be now. They evacuated to WPB for Ian, thank God.
Mighty tasty.
Yep. Way better than chicken.
Had a large farm in Wisconsin. Sandhill Cranes arrive the day you finish corn planting. Loud squawking rats with wings. They always nest in the east side of your fields and have a ravenous appetite. I always wondered why they don’t nest in wet areas? They love loose dry sandy loam soil. I think they like the turned soil recently cultivated for planting because it exposes all the bugs, grubs, snakes, rats, mice, toads, snails, etc.....
My son-in-law hates those things. His car had a very nice gloss to it and the SH cranes would see their reflection and would peck at them, which was actually the car. He had to have the entire car repainted because of it. Covered it with a tarp until he had it painted. Since got another car. Those birds are something else.
As a koi pond owner, I’m rooting for the hurricane.
Cool video. Thanks for posting. Looks like Mom, Dad and their two half-grown chicks, and it looks like they made it through Ian, albeit with a few ruffled feathers.
The Ribeye of the Sky.
dont they watch the news
they could have evacuated
Female humans.
Haha! Years ago when the kids were young, they won some goldfish at the fair throwing ping pong balls into little bowls. We had a little half-whiskey barrel water garden on the back deck so we put them in there with a few other fish.
Came out one morning to the kitchen and there was a blue heron perched on the edge of the barrel getting ready for breakfast.
