When they whined was when the worst gusts literally picked them up off the ground and blew them backwards. Note the males were not so buffeted about. If one ignores this reality from the video then it might seem that the females just stood still and whined. Not so.

Two subspecies are, but not all of them.

Youtube videos say they’re tasty.

See my post #25. It’s the best answer to your non-discriminating slam at “women”. It accurately describes what the video shows - that the females being lighter in weight & less muscular than the males were being lifted up in the air and blown backwards; therefore “whined” whenever that happened to them. Facts are stubborn things.

But when they migrate to other states, they're 'fair game'.

What states can you legally hunt sandhill cranes?
Sixteen states offer crane hunting: Colorado, Wyoming, Kansas, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Idaho, Minnesota, Arizona, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alaska, New Mexico, North Dakota and South Dakota. Many seasons are limited and require a special permit.

Supposedly they taste like porkchops.

Two subspecies of sandhill crane occur in Florida. The Florida sandhill crane (G. c. pratensis), numbering 4,000 to 5,000, is a non-migratory year-round breeding resident. They are joined every winter by 25,000 migratory greater sandhill cranes (G. c. tabida), the larger of the two subspecies. The greater sandhill crane winters in Florida but nests in the Great Lakes region. Sandhill cranes nest during late winter and spring on mats of vegetation about two feet in diameter and in shallow water.

Both the migrating and the non-migrating species are protected while they're in Florida. However, the migrating ones are, as I said, fair game out of Florida.

Only the Florida Sandhill Crane is protected in Florida. As for the greater sandhill crane they are fair game ONLY in TN and KY AND only during hunting season.

Well, I won’t back down
No I won’t back down
You could stand me up at the gates of Hell
But I won’t back down
No I’ll stand my ground
Won’t be turned around
And I’ll keep this world from draggin’ me down
Gonna stand my ground
And I won’t back down
