Has Anyone Followed the Inspector Morse Series? Inspector Morse, Lewis, and Endeavour? Thoughts?

I have been overwhelmed with the series. to the point that I have purchased the DVDS. I have never felt television to fit. this fits.

your take?

Love pretty much most mystery series.

When I first started to read, it was Nancy Drew!

Endeavor is interesting. Morse is as boring as watching grass grow or paint dry. Couldn’t understand the popularity?

I subscribe to AcornTV streaming for Brit, AU, NZ series.

I watch quite a few — they don’t seem to have a much ‘agenda’ programming as US programs.

City Homicide (AU) is a good older series, not too dated.
Brokenwood Mysteries (NZ).
My Life Is Murder (NZ/AU) with Lucy Lawless (Xena, warrior princess).
Silent Witness (Brit).
Single-Handed (Irish).

Also, running on PBS, Van Der Valk.

For foreign language series, you cannot beat “Salamander” and “Before We Die”. I just finished binge watching both of these and was totally engrossed!

I never watched the Morse series, but did watch Lewis, its spin-off, and Endeavor from the beginning. Both are excellent, as is Foyle’s War. Shetland is also an excellent series if its streaming. Murdoch Mysteries is a long-running Canadian series, as well as British series Midsomer Murders, although I’ve never watched either of them. The detective series Vera, as well as Unforgotten are two more excellent British series. One thing the British do very well is murder mysteries.

Enjoyed them all. Even the old British shows were great - Blakes 7, Callan, The Professionals. Loved Dr Who until it went woke, then I went bye bye. Also love the vicar shows. Was more interested in Lewis and Endeavour than in Morse, though I bought all of Morse, too. Currently watching Chinese and Korean the way I used to watch the British series. I had always bought the DVDs for the British shows, but now I just subscribe to viki.com and iq.com because they’re so cheap. Since I used to have to put subtitles on for the British shows, it’s not a big deal to always have subtitles on for Chinese and Korean.

I used to watch Morse regularly, but not for quite a few years now.

I always enjoyed it, but I was not passionate about it.

I actually enjoyed the "Young" Inspector Morse series more than the original.

I do get passionate about movies and a few of the made for TV movies from years past.

But, for me, even really well made TV series - like Breaking Bad and the spin offs - always run out of gas after a year or two.

We love all of the BBC/Brit police/detective/mystery shows you mentioned and a few others.

We can get most of them for free via Prime and even more by donating $5/month to our local non profit tv station.

BritBox charges $5/month and has many of the above shows you posted and more..

Endeavor and Inspector Lewis were the pinnacle of TV entertainment.

Except the last season of Endeavor, which was quite weak in comparison.

Inspector Morse series seemed a little trite, and of much lower production quality.

My favorite, Inspector Lewis.

Wife’s favorite, Endeavor.

The wife and I enjoy Endeavour. She keeps asking, “Why can’t Americans studios make shows like this?”

My favorite Brit mystery series is Foyle’s War.

It is about a small town Brit Cop in pre WW2 and WW2.

My maternal Grandfather was a Brit descendent and looked enough like Foyle to be a twin.

We have a few Brit Friends in our age group, and they were in the UK during the War. They love this series.

The shows after WW2 were often a hard stretch to be as realistic as his/Foyle’s first series.

I watched the original Morse series, mainly for John Thaw. The show was a huge hit. Thaw also acted in several other popular British serials, including Kavanaugh QC and The Sweeney. He died some years ago of esophageal cancer — he was a very heavy smoker. When you watch your Morse CDs, watch for brief cameos by the author of the original Morse books, Colin Dexter.

Not a bad series. It did raise a question in my mind that it never answered: What exactly was Morse’ problem? Why so irascible?

I love Lewis, DCI Banks, Foyle's War, and Midsomer Murders. I loved Wallander. And if you want something more whimsical, try Death in Paradise.

Yep, watched all of the Endeavour series. I’ll move on the the others pretty soon.

Suggest:

Broadchurch & Hidden. First two seasons of both are great, the third seasons are kind of average, but worth watching.

George Gently - if you liked Foyle’s War, you might like this.

Mystery Road (Australia) is good, the series with Judy Davis is great, the other series and related movies are ok.
