I have been overwhelmed with the series. to the point that I have purchased the DVDS. I have never felt television to fit. this fits.
your take?
Endeavor is a the best television series I’ve ever seen, with brilliant writing, complex plots, great acting, and high production values. The Inspector Morse series is also good, and the Morse character is closer to Colin Dexter’s books; the production values show their age and the budgets were likely much smaller. I like Inspector Lewis, but it’s written around the idea that he succeeds by less exalted means than Morse — I miss the intellectual angles that Morse bought to the table.
I used to watch Inspector Morse. Is it still running?
Try Ripper Steet. Very well done. And few a little levity Try Doc Martin.
I’ve often wondered how anybody could be left alive in Midsomer with all the murders in that small community.
Love Endeavor. Morse and Lewis are decent. Endeavor is just a young Morse, correct?
Brokenwood is great, although it’s set in New Zealand.
Seen every episode but one of all three series. Multiple times.
I won’t watch the last episode of Morse.
I liked Grantchester, I never knew that a vicar could have such a great sex life plus be a freelance detective. Endeavour is terrific, they got the Asperger’s thing right. Midsomer Murders is a bit of a snooze 💤 .
We’ve been stuck on Death in Paradise for almost 2 months.
Have not watched Inspector Morse, but recently watched all the available “seasons” of Endeavor and enjoyed them immensely. The time frame - late 60’s - coincides with my high school years, so I have clear memories of what life here (California) was like during that time period. As portrayed in the series, the UK/Oxford seemed more like the 50’s, even though the episodes have occasional glimpses of the news events and cultural changes that were impacting both of our cultures.
So crazy to think how hard police work was without computers, internet, cell phones. Just old fashioned leg work, and Morse’s brilliance of course. They are filming an 8th season now - can’t wait. And I really like Shaun Evans, except for the season with that dreadful mustache.
Try “New Tricks” for a change, bunch of old retreads helping out a disgraced Chief Inspecter.
I’ve been interested in doing so. Isn’t Endeavour like the third season? What’s first, second, third?
Lol. Yes, that be BBC
BTTT
Captured much of it as downloads when it first ran on BBC. Good stuff. Lewis eventually has a series all his own.
Yes, I’ve enjoyed Morse, Endeavor, and Lewis and I’d put them in that order best to good.
I’m currently enjoying both Van Der Valk and Silent Witness.
I thought Vienna Blood was particularly good in plot, character development, and especially evoking the ambiance of pre-WW I Vienna.
There is a great list of recommendations in this thread. If I had time I would do what I have done in the past. Strip them out as a list to print out at the end of the thread...
I have watched all 3 series at least two times. I think they are great.
They are all great
