The combined sales of the two grocery store chains are nearly $210 billion, putting Kroger about $10 billion shy of U.S. food sales at Walmart, the world’s largest grocer.
Kroger and Albertsons are expected to divest 100 to 375 stores to pacify antitrust concerns, leaving Kroger to operate more than 4,500 stores nationwide, according to the Enquirer. Albertsons’ investors will own a separate company that includes the divested stores.
Both stores currently employ a combined 710,000 associates and operate 4,996 stores, 66 distribution centers, 52 manufacturing plants, 3,972 pharmacies and 2,015 fuel centers in 48 states and Washington D.C.

Because “corporate greed” is a drop in the bucket in food cost increases compared to intentionally caused fuel cost increases caused by the Biden Administration, not to mention increases in fertilizer costs.

I agree with Bernie on this. I would reject the merger due to antitrust concerns unless they can make a good case that they are being threatened by Amazon. But I doubt it. I can buy canned goods from Amazon. Nothing fresh.
As long as Kroger doesn’t hire managers who have Sander’s total lack of business ability and intelligence, it’s far better than having a food company run by DemocRATs. As for them being woke, well, we’ll have to take care of that.
And that one grocery chain will be perpetually out of stock on most of the items you actually want.
