Ninety-two migrants were found almost naked and bruised after allegedly being forced across the Evros river from Turkey into Greece, Athens said Sunday, a charge fiercely denied by Ankara.
EU border agency Frontex confirmed the arrival of the group in circumstances which the Greek ministry for civil protection said sent out an 'inhuman image.'
'The Frontex officers reported that the migrants were found almost naked and some of them with visible injuries,' said Paulina Bakula, spokeswoman for the organisation.
The UN refugee agency, UNHCR, said in a tweet that it was 'deeply distressed by the shocking reports and images of 92 people, who were reported to have been found at the Greek-Turkish land border, stripped of their clothes'.
Bakula, speaking from Frontex's Warsaw HQ, said Frontex officers worked with Greek authorities to provide the migrants - mainly Afghans and Syrians - with immediate assistance.
She added the organisation had informed the agency's fundamental rights officer of a potential rights violation.
Meanwhile, Greek minister for civil protection Takis Theodorikakos accused Turkey of 'instrumentalising illegal immigration' in the latest of a series of recriminations on migration between the neighbours.

The Turks don’t want the immigrants, so they let them pass on through to Greece. The Greeks don’t want them, and are sending them back to Turkey.
Presently, around 3-million-plus Syrian refugees are in Turkey, with another 2-million-plus non-Syrian refugees there.
The vast majority of the five-million are looking for some way of exiting and going to Germany. Turks (at least at the national level) are ambivalent this. They don’t want the refugees but are getting some cash flow from the EU and UN to cover expenses. At local level...various Turkish smugglers exist and for some cash situation, they will take the migrant to the Greek border or some Greek isle...dumping them off.
The old tactic was just to reach Greece, and travel on through to Northern Macedonia, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, and onto Bavaria. Fences are up and the Frontex people (EU’s security) are supposed to prevent movement.
The Greeks got the idea from the good folks at Martha’s Vineyard.
Hah......
Don’t worry Greece. Your EU overlords will give Turkey the nod to invade you if necessary.
Aren’t you supposed to complain about the Daily Mail?
According to the articles that I’ve seen over the past few years, Turkey has been sending or allowing large numbers of Muslim refugees to float to Greece. Greeks are overwhelmed.
There, fixed it for you FRiend. :)
If Africa is for Africans, then Europe is for Europeans.
Fix your own dumps.
According to international law, all refugees are supposed to claim asylum in the first country it is safe for them to.
That’s Turkey!
They should stay there!
Mutual enmity between Greece and Turkey since about forever. They hate each other. In Greece, ancient archaeological sites from times of Turkish occupation are left un-excavated, closed off and unacknowledged.
