Red Bull owner and co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz, who once claimed to drink 10-12 cans of the beverage every day, has died at 78.

Mateschitz accrued an estimated fortune of $24.65 billion throughout his career and was widely known as the richest man in Austria, Reuters reported Sunday. He passed away following a battle with cancer Saturday. Mateschitz built the Red Bull brand from merely an energy drink to the multi-billion dollar cultural giant it is today, sponsoring high-octane sports events, both fringe and mainstream, across the globe.

Red Bull first entered global markets in 1987 after modifying the recipe for a Thai energy drink, but the company wouldn't break into the U.S. market until 1990. While the company had a rocky start, it soon entered a stride and enlisted an Austrian marketing company that eventually coined the company's famous slogan, "Red Bull gives you wings," according to Reuters.

Today, the company sells nearly 10 billion cans annually, a third of which are purchased in the U.S.

25 billion and he hits the wall at age 78? He could not do any better? I know I would. With even two million net worth. He should have taken up farming with Bill Gates

Did he get vaxxxed up the wazoo? Or did he get saline?

I don't drink Red Bull very often but it probably saved my life.

I only drink it on very long drives. When I find myself nodding off at the wheel, I pull into a rest area and get a can. I'm then good for the next 200 miles or so.

These energy drinks seem to average 200 MG of Caffeine, so I don’t think he could consume 2000mg a day of that and live.

That stuff is liquid cocaine.

I had the max version, or some name like that.

I stopped lifting and went home and watched tv, while laying on the floor for a couple hours...

My German is pretty rusty but I do believe that if my last name was Mateschitz I would change it to something less nasty.

“What? Did his heart explode?”

He should have listened to his Uncle Klaus and gotten the saline

Billionaires tend to be hard drivers, energy drink or not.

He likely would have dropped dead before not long after 78 years old, even if he lived clean because his work day would have been 16hours/day

Mateschitz never married,[20] but had a son named Mark who was born in the early 1990s.[21] As of the time of Mateschitz’s death, his son was the managing director of one of his investment companies.[43] Mateschitz rarely gave interviews, and refused to answer questions about his son.[44] Mateschitz was in a relationship for two years with the mother of his son, and later had a long-term partner named Marion Feichtner.[44] He was known as a recluse, stating “I don’t believe in 50 friends. I believe in a smaller number. Nor do I care about society events. It’s the most senseless use of time. When I do go out, from time to time, it’s just to convince myself again that I’m not missing a lot”.[44]

He held a pilot’s licence and enjoyed flying a Falcon 900 and a Piper Super Cub.[20] He had his own hangar with a collection of old planes, including the last Douglas DC-6B to be produced, and which once belonged to Yugoslav Marshal Josip Broz Tito.[45]

Mateschitz and his Bundesliga club RB Leipzig faced backlash in 2017 over comments made in a Kleine Zeitung interview[46] in which he suggested that Austria should close its borders to refugees and expressed support for Donald Trump and other populist positions.[47]

Mateschitz lived in Fuschl am See, Austria but also owned the island of Laucala in Fiji, which he bought from the Forbes family for £7 million.[20] He spent millions on acquiring and conserving houses and castles in the Austrian Alps, saying “I want to enjoy these places myself, but I also want to take care of them”.[44]

He died following a long period of illness on 22 October 2022, at the age of 78.[48] His death was announced to the Red Bull team minutes before the start of qualifying for the 2022 United States Grand Prix.[49]

Prior to recent surgery the surgeon wanted me on a minimum 2 miles walking every day.

I gently sipped a redline during the morning and generally made the goal fairly easy.

I chugged the “extreme” (I looked it up) and started lifting. My pulse was around 180, and I take long breaks in between sets...

I don’t know your age, but walking daily is excellent for health, and peace of mind. Feel the Sun and wind, hear the birds etc.
