Isn't that the truth! But then I get a free pass being a sailor. Ha.
🙂👍
no swearing in the Good Book!
I read an article about the differences in meaning of cuss words in different languages. In English, one word has the meaning of having sex. In Russian, their similar word has the meaning of to hit (if I recall correctly).
On my list of things I would like to find out more about but probably never will!
Maybe the thing people should resume is finding other ways to accomplish the same thing, or, in the case of pain, not be so namby-pamby and just accept it.
Altho I usually let out a bad word upon slamming a bone against something hard. :o
“adult words”
One of the great excuses of our times. Public profanity is meant for adults, huh? Keep the kids away and let ‘er rip!
Perhaps a better approach would be paraphrased by Mark Twain, who said that a compliments commonly given, cease to be compliments. When Shakespeare used his “get thee to a nunnery”; its use was infrequent and eloquent, to convey both outrage and shock. Much like the “Go to Hell” in Gone With the Wind, its use was probably necessary given the situation.
Today, the foul language is used multiple times in everyday language; such that it is so common as to be meaningless. Vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity. This is hardly the mark of an intellectually gifted individual.
