Potty-mouthed people are happy as %@#!.
Swearing can make a person feel more persuasive, powerful, and socially connected — and often has a positive impact on relationships, according to new research.
“Swearing produces effects that are not observed with other forms of language use. Thus, swearing is powerful,” a group of scientists from universities in the UK determined.
“It generates a range of distinctive outcomes: physiological, cognitive, emotional, pain-relieving, interactional and rhetorical.”

No shit
Depends on the situation and environment. But then what the hell?
F’n A
It’s lazy language, nothing more.
There are levels of swearing:
1. Swearing to yourself under your breath or when no one can hear you.
2. Swearing around friends
a. When no children are listening
b. When children are listening
3. Swearing when speaking to a large, unknown audience
So the author would have us believe that the “poets” of most every Rap “song”, are merely enthusiastically emphasizing their emotive responses, rather than the vulgar and common, as they express themselves with profanity.
Funny, I have read Einstein, Poe, Twain, Shakespeare, Feyman, Dickens, Hemmingway, Tolkein, Orwell, Heinlien, Asmov, Koontz and many others - and they have expressed almost every emotion known to mankind - and didn’t seem to feel the need to use profanity.
Some of the best comics who have ever graced the stage, could provide hours of legendary performance, and never go there. May I offer Red Skelton as an example.
Damned freaking tootin’.
Gratuitous usage of profanity can also make a person come off as illiterate.
CV19 vaccines are good for you too!
“It generates a range of distinctive outcomes: physiological, cognitive, emotional, pain-relieving, interactional and rhetorical.”
It had those outcomes, none of them positive.
These days the F word is used more like an “ummmm” or verbal punctuation between thoughts than intended vulgarity
Swearing in the wrong situation is like talking to someone with a piece of spinach on your teeth. They are so distracted by your mouth, they don’t register the rest of what you’re saying.
No, it has its (occasional) place.
Too many so overuse it that it sounds crude and/or lazy.
It’s noise pollution. Like throwing trash at someone. Do I swear? Yes. To keep it at a minimum, I pray. I know I swear at myself less when I remember to pray.
I am tired of the BS. Do I sound a little jaded here?
Yup - poor vocabulary, plain and simple. Nothing to be proud of.
While swearing was not done in my parents home, I gradually used it around friends after high school. It was rare though, because I didn’t want it to become automatic. That paid off during my dating years, and then the courtship of my wife. Classy girls like classy guys. One chick told me once, “You’re language so mature, not sloppy and in the gutter like most guys.” I have mostly one to thank for that....
Thanks Mom!!
