Good day Fellow Freepers. Hope everyone had a great weekend.
There is no student debt, no credit card bills, no car or house payments for me to worry about. I just want to enjoy the time I have left and go fishing, drink a decent whisky and relax.
Keep fighting the good fight. You and your families are in my prayers and I wish everyone the best. Even Laz and Gunner. /smile

I understand. I’m getting ready to do the same thing except that I have been retired for almost 10 years, since I was 58. I’m mostly tired of losing and need to focus on something real.

Enjoy your break. I do the same thing occasionally, and think it’s a good thing to unplug for a while and focus on the truly important things around you.

I may pull back from FR myself for a while. Not permanently, but this election has been painful. I feel like I’ve been mugged. Add in some family issues and I may need a break for a little while. Not total, though, and not permanently. But I need some rest from politics.
It is a beautiful time of the year in southern Arizona and maybe some time riding the horses and hiking with the wife will help restore my soul.
Hope we’ll “see” each other again, though!

I suggest you are overthinking retirement.
Relax. What is coming is coming except, you don’t know what is coming. All you can say or think with certainty is that you will not be spending your days working where you are now.
You can survey all your talents and various experiences over the years. Then start looking for a way to apply one or two of those talents to a money making opportunity, a retirement self employment job. Not everyday, say two or three days a week are enough to keep your mind and body in working condition.
Think opportunity. Think new. Think enjoyment
Enjoy the peace of mind

Retirement is fun. (Except for that three year period when I fought off cancer)
When I was about to retire (a few years back) everyone kept bugging me about “what I was going to do”.
I finally created a fake narrative to shut them up—it was believable and I got lots of detailed suggestions about how to implement the “plan”.
When I did retire I did what I wanted to do—which was none of their business—is still none of their business—but it was not work....and had nothing to do with the fake narrative.
