I enjoy a person who is happy, internally consistent with what they are doing, enjoys making people smile EVEN if it is to produce the effect in the opposite sex when there isn’t really any...overt sexual thing going on.
They can do things like wearing pigtails or whatever, and even if they don’t carry it well, if it is in good spirits, it is great. I love that kind of thing.
It makes me smile, and God knows, I can use that anytime these days!
But someone who does it to get money and is disgusted by the reaction to it is...well, contemptible!
Telling clean jokes will also get you more tips.
I’m on the road about 50% of the time for my job. I tip based on service. I’ve never looked at the hairstyle of the waitress and determined the tip. Maybe I’m not shallow enough
“But doing it then complaining about it and being disgusted by it certainly casts a different light...”
Definitely. Why is this chick bitching? It’s not like she has to perform sexual acts on customers to get a better tip. It’s just pigtails, for Pete’s sake.
LOL, exactly.
I dislike people who present themselves deliberately as something they aren't. Authentic people resonate with me, and people like this woman repel me.
If she REALLY wants to make more at tips, wear the pigtails, and enjoy it, not just be a money-grubber. Men (and women) will REALLY get that vibe
Lol...
Let’s face it-if the server is a 10 in appearance, but sullen and a poor server, only the most dweebish of people of either sex would tip extravagantly.
Most guys I know are suckers for an attractive woman, with a fetching smile and a nice personality, even if the service is so-so.
But the sour-puss and poor service, even from an attractive server-people don’t fall for that.
I adjusted my style based on my situation.
Admittedly, I was never what one would consider a stunning beauty. I was pretty enough to win a beauty contest and knew how to turn up the sexy look without crossing the line to slutty.
At work, I was professional. No cleavage, suits, and skirts past my knees. That didn’t stop one of my bosses from hitting on me (left that job) or a client from grabbing my backside (left that job, too). I was shocked and disgusted because I was all business at work and because both men were married. It was disheartening to discover that working around married men was not as safe as I thought it would be and not all men were like my father.
From that point forward, I was toned down and bland. I wasn’t seeking male attention from staff and wanted clients to focus on my words and work.
At the club, I turned up the hotness dial because I was husband hunting.
After I married, I loosened up at work. I was more comfortable letting my looks shine again because the massive rock and glittering wedding band were clear signs I was off the market and a no-go zone. My looking pretty at work was not meant for anyone except my husband; I wanted to look good for him when I walked through the door at night.
I used my looks for their intended purpose, to secure my mate and keep him by my side these last 30 years.
All my other accomplishments came from my talent, hard work, and my brains.
re: the clothing you can’t pull off anymore...... i agree 100% Too many older folks in clothes meant for the youngins’
( Jill and her fishnets! Old fat guys in muscle shirts)
Just get a good mirror.
Maybe there is less hair in the food since the hair is contained better...
Well, you are blind.
"an old guy wearing clothes normally only a teenager would wear"
🙂
Truth!!
My airline opened a new base and I got transferred. It takes a while to get it up and running so I didn’t work for 6 months - I got a waitressing job to combat the boredom at an upscale local Italian restaurant and was SO TERRIBLE but the tips rolled in. I forgot to give a table their check for about 30 minutes and gave them a $20 on top of it as an apology. They left $100 on top of my $20 for a tip. I remember one elderly woman took a couple of women out to lunch so she could talk about her trip overseas but they were only interested in the free lunch. I was all over her pictures and loved her stories and she left $50 IIRC.I was so giggly and giddy, I think people thought I was ‘slow’ and felt sorry for me. I made money hand over fist, never leaving with less than $75-$100 and no one could figure out how I made so much.
Fun Fact: the restaurant was in a very stately, large mansion that was built in the late 1800s/early 1900s and was haunted!!!!
ping a roo! The last time I saw pigtails was in elementary school, way back when. And they were very long pigtails because their hair was naturally long and strong. Wendy.
I’ve never been to Hooters and I really don’t have a desire to go there, but I find myself defending them from time to time. My wife think all the waitresses there are akin to whores, but it’s just Hooter’s “shtick”. It’s what they do to get customers, nothing more. I’m sure the waitresses DO get their share of off-color comments by some patrons. When I go out to eat, part of the experience is to relax, enjoy the time with my wife, and hopefully have good service and a good meal.
It’s a free country (🙄) still, and Hooters is excersizing their capitalist prerogative.
Bingo! The author is spouting woke nonsense. I have been to Hooter’s several times and some of the servers were kind of fat and not all that attractive. I assume the better-looking servers get bigger tips. Why does the author think that better-looking women are chosen as news anchors and not women that look like Hillary Clinton (particularly today)?
Unfair? I am 71 years old, but if I don’t make the Tampa Bay Bucs roster, it is because the system is unfair? No its because I would get killed out there.
Absolutely. Younger employees inevitably have little in savings and are facing first time purchases that older employees have put behind them. They're also more likely to be working their way through school. Watch how many times customers ask young wait staff if they're in school.
A friend who owns a restaurant explained why he almost always assigned young wait staff to our table - we treated the them well, tipped very well, and had zero issues with what we ordered. A restaurant owner needs new staff to get enough tips and have a pleasant enough experience to stay onboard. The industry has enough turnover as it is. The more experienced wait staff didn't mind as they had their regular customers already.
