Chris is amazing. Have you seen his (not yet complete) series on building a copy of the Antikythera device? He has a complimentary series on building the tools to build it, and the work methods. He’s trying to deduce how the process of building it might have gone.
He lived from 1918 to 1999. Learned his craft in Lithuania (pre-WWII) and in Germany (during and after WWII). Worked at Abercrombie & Fitch as their gunsmith for about 30 years. For those that don’t know, before Abercrombie & Fitch became a retail clothing thing, A&F used to be a super high end sporting / camping / hunting / fishing store, literally for the rich and famous. My dad worked on their toys.
Luckily, I learned many skills from him. Things this generation has not a clue about. You are right about the admiration thing.
I have a very well equipped machine shop in my basement; but, I can assure you that I don't make anything that comes close to the beauty of his work. He makes most of his tools himself, including the files.

When I discovered his site a couple of years ago you could have knocked me over with a feather. Most metalworking videos ramble on and on and the quality is always poor. Clickspring is in a class of its own.

I sit somewhat spellbound when I watch his videos. His full length features are well narrated and contain no dead space or repetition. They are always sharp and clear, and his technique is very good.
I USE to have a good machining business until the state locked down for COVID. I lost 95% of my work. It started to come back but now with the cost of materials (If I can even find them) and inflation I’m barely holding on now. I could get more work if I could find some help. But even the training programs were shut down at the local tech schools and haven’t gotten any graduates yet.

More important than your tools and machines is what’s between your ears. Passing the shop on is fine, but please do the same with your knowledge. Without THAT, the rest is just iron.
It is my sad experience that nobody wishes to know anything I know.

At 80, at least 75% of what I know no longer matters.
I bet we could teach a thing or two about women. As it is, the young ones have a long and difficult learning curve ahead of them.
