Okay, before you go nuts, hear me out.
Soccer just isn't our sport. We suck at it. The USMNT is going nowhere, and they're just a bunch of virtue signalers anyway.
The Iranian team almost literally is playing for their lives. They have been protesting their government by not singing for the anthem, and there are reports their families are being threatened if they don't "behave". If they lose, there is a decent chance a few of them will just be disappeared.
So lets say they beat the US. They will be national heroes. It will be very very difficult for the Mullahs to crack down on them, and their voices will be amplified. And, the Iranian people will have another group to rally around in their quest to topple their government.
Flame away.

I do hope they win. They are most likely dead if they lose.
Their families and themselves will face retribution if they lose.

If Iran wins, the players are off the hook and will be treated as heroes.
If the USA wins, about 14 people in the US will care and the Iranian players will be punished by their terrorist government.

I enjoy soccer and would have been cheering on the USA, but due to the woke priorities the team has displayed, I’ve been rooting against them. I have a hard time cheering on Iran, but maybe a scoreless tie would be my preferred outcome; thus, neither side has much of anything to cheer about.
Another Zero to Zero would be good. Unless you can get a minus 1 somehow.
That's the women's team. The men's team tend to keep their mouths shut about stuff.
If we're to harshly criticize athletes that use that moment to virtue signal, shouldn't we as passionately support the ones who do the right thing?

The diehard progressive men’s USA team should lose on purpose to protect the Iranian players’ families. Either they care (as don’t all progressives?) or they are just normal hypocrites.

I don’t think the US team realizes they got their lunch eaten yesterday. The team captain’s response to the taunting was apologetic and groveling. typical snowflake.
They probably think it’s just another game. While the iranians are fired up. I think Iran will win easily because of this.
