I root against mexico. The fans fill bottles with urine and pour it on team USA when games are played in Mexico City at Aztec stadium.

n the group stage, at least, the games can end in a tie.

I've said it once, I'll say it again, "Any sport that routinely ends in a tie is distinctly un-American"

I lived in Europe years ago and it wasn’t uncommon that four soccer games were played on four different channels back when there was no cable. Learned to loathe it. 90 minutes and sometimes zero goals. And if someone did score they certainly savored it... The announcer screamed goooooooal for like three minutes.

Thanks for making this a win-win game for me.
If they lose, we can put them all on a plane to the USA as asylum seekers. But maybe sending to Mexican border would be faster.

This USMNT is not a bad team. It’s the one sport a lot of people from around the country, of all strips, get get behind and show some patriotic unity. I went to a bar for the last game, it was packed full of fans. You’d think all FReepers would be behind that. ...so disappointing.

That said, if Iran wins it’ll be a win for the Mullah’s. They’ll declare a great victory over the ‘evil USA’...more propaganda.

“some patriotic unity” for the land of the perverts.

Nope.

It is honestly sad for me to see people being so reactionary on FR.

People openly cheer for cruel despotic regimes like Russia and Iran simply because we have a bad President.

The Iranian media orchestrated with Qatar the precisely same ‘[politically correct’ denunciation of the United States as “structurally racist.” The American Left and Putin, the Communists of China, and theocrats of Iran are all of the same rhetorical mold. They are authoritarian.

The idea that Iranian soccer players winning somehow helps the revolt against the government of Tehran is ridiculous. The government is threatening the players. If they win, then the regime wins.

The united States stands for individual human freedom—whether American organizations fail to do so or not.

I hope the Iranian government and its proxies on the soccer field lose.

I think the display of the Iranian flag without the theocracratic symbols was an excellent counter move by the US.

“They have been protesting their government by not singing for the anthem”

Any of them taking a knee?

It is NOT on their uniforms. Their uniforms are just red, white, and blue.

Ditto, I can't support them either. I hope Iran beats the hell out of them. Let them take their Gay flag and shove it up their arse. God be with the brave Iranian people.

Andrés Escobar

Andrés Escobar Saldarriaga (Spanish pronunciation: [anˈdɾes eskoˈβaɾ salðari’aga]; 13 March 1967 – 2 July 1994)[1] was a Colombian footballer who played as a defender. He played for Atlético Nacional, BSC Young Boys, and the Colombia national team.[2] Nicknamed The Gentleman, he was known for his clean style of play and calmness on the pitch.[3]

On 2 July 1994, Escobar was murdered in the aftermath of the 1994 FIFA World Cup, reportedly as retaliation for having scored an own goal which contributed to the team’s elimination from the tournament.[4] His murder tarnished the image of the country internationally.[5] Escobar himself had worked to promote a more positive image of Colombia, earning acclaim in the country.[6]

Escobar is still held in high regard by Colombian fans, and is especially mourned and remembered by Atlético Nacional’s fans.

No. It really can’t. The Iranian government isn’t elected.
