A 38-year-old Florida man on a stand-up electric scooter was arrested Wednesday after fleeing from Deputies and then jumping in the water.
According to deputies, Jose Junior Vigil, 38, of Ocala, was charged with fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Investigators say Vigil crossed U.S. 1 on Stock Island at approximately 2:47 a.m. on a scooter with no lights.
Deputies attempted to stop the man as he traveled south toward Key West on the sidewalk. Vigil refused to stop for Deputies and continued to drive to a hotel near the entrance of Key West where he fled on foot.
Deputies attempted to shock Vigil with a Taser but were not successful.
Vigil then jumped into the water and refused to come out.
Deputies say that a responding Key West Police Officer convinced Vigil to get out of the water.
A small amount of marijuana and multiple plastic baggies were found in Vigil’s possession.
Vigil was booked into the Monroe County Jail with no bond.
No mention of bath salts. I’m a little surprised.
Lucky for him there were no gators in the water. He would have been an easy meal.

Cops should have told him. “Y’all better come outta there, yours ain’t the only eyes shinning out there tonite”.
He probably votes Democrat since felons can vote in FL now, but I’m guessing he’ll remain “sleep”...
I vividly recall looking out in the creeks off of the St Johns River at night and seeing dozens upon dozens of eyes...

Florida man has been a bit tame lately.
Bull shark, tiger shark, or gator, it’s a hard way to lose a few pounds. Most everything in the water eats meat in one form or another. Probably why they say swim at your own risk.
Bull sharks go way up into brackish/almost fresh water.
Super aggressive shark.
Supposedly responsible for those deaths in a NJ river a long time ago...
