Legendary soccer star Pele has been transferred to an end-of-life care unit at a Brazilian hospital, according to reports.
The 82-year-old Brazilian soccer star, known as the “King,” is being treated for colon cancer and was diagnosed with a respiratory infection after being hospitalized Tuesday for “a reassessment of chemotherapy treatment.”
The cancer was detected last year, according to a statement from the Sao Paulo Hospital, the Folha de Sao Paulo reported.

God bless him.
I remember seeing him at Veteran’s Stadium playing in the NASL fifty years ago. May he pass peacefully into his afterlife.
So specialized care, not end of life care?...
Palliative care, probably like Hospice is here.
Philly?
Correct.
I couldn’t really discern, but you’re likely correct.
Too much wordsmithing nowadays.
“Differently abled”.
“So the dude is in a wheelchair?”
“Yes, but we don’t like to say it like that.”
“He’s still in a wheelchair...”
Adios, Pepe.
Should have learned English and moved to America.
What is palliative care?
Palliative care is specialized medical care for people living with a serious illness, such as cancer or heart failure. Patients in palliative care may receive medical care for their symptoms, or palliative care, along with treatment intended to cure their serious illness. Palliative care is meant to enhance a person’s current care by focusing on quality of life for them and their family.
What is hospice care?
Increasingly, people are choosing hospice care at the end of life. Hospice care focuses on the care, comfort, and quality of life of a person with a serious illness who is approaching the end of life.
At some point, it may not be possible to cure a serious illness, or a patient may choose not to undergo certain treatments. Hospice is designed for this situation. The patient beginning hospice care understands that his or her illness is not responding to medical attempts to cure it or to slow the disease’s progress.
Like palliative care, hospice provides comprehensive comfort care as well as support for the family, but, in hospice, attempts to cure the person’s illness are stopped. Hospice is provided for a person with a terminal illness whose doctor believes he or she has six months or less to live if the illness runs its natural course.
May he live his remaining days in peace and comfort.
No disrespect to the man at all, but how weird is it that out of nowhere, the Hawaiians started warning everyone about his hair. Now this news.
I’m not trying to make a joke, only pointing out that we certainly live in strange times and timings.
Very sad.
Likely vaxxed
In before the soccer haters.
Didn’t know Pele was still alive.
ISWYDT!
Vai com Deus, caro amigo. Obrigado pelas alegrias que voce trouxe atravez do seu talento….
So specialized care, not end of life care?...
—
Palliative care generally means to provide healthcare that will make the person as comfortable and pain-free as possible, but it is not a treatment that is expected to remedy the underlying condition, in this case the cancer, which is likely beyond the point of curing.
Thanks. It seems very similar to hospice with very minor differences.
A man that inspired many around the world…May he pass comfortably and without pain onto the next soccer field in the afterlife
