Walk through this part of central Brussels on a sunny morning and you could just as well be in Rabat or Tangiers.
In this Moroccan neighbourhood in the heart of the Belgian capital...The atmosphere is undoubtedly Moroccan as you head down the main street towards Midi train station.
Five million Moroccans live abroad, most of them in Europe. They make up large minorities in France, Spain, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands.
Here in Brussels and surrounding regions, they number 400,000.
Morocco's victories showed celebrations turning ugly in several European cities.
In places, celebrations turned to street battles involving young Morocco fans and police.

Moroccans in Europe you say?
If Morocco was worth celebrating why don’t they live there?
Which is a problem in and of itself.
They own hash shops in Holland.
White people committing suicide on a global scale.
Africa and the Middle East (more so Muslim nations) suck because of the people and their culture.
Diversity means ruining “White countries”.
The flag with the star should be hung upside down.
Their team doesn’t waste time pushing deviant sex and political agendas.
No wonder they win
No kidding. When I used to fly into Charles De Gaulle airpor in Paris (horrible processing of passengers), you could tell that a flight arrived from Morocco. Sadly, the same thing happened in Vienna’s airport. Lot of hijabs.
More rockin’ by the Moroccans
Morocco beat Portugal today 1-0. If they defeat the winner of the game between England and France, they will go to the final match—the first country in Africa to do so.
(Kinda funny because it’s not “Africa”, if ya know whadI mean.)
I haven’t watched the world cup in years so I was surprised to see Italy out as well as some other, usually good teams not make it.
I have never been to North Africa but my impression is that the population of the Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia) resembles the people living in the Iberian peninsula and Italy appearance-wise. The Moroccan fans in the stands in Qatar seemed “white” by American standards although some of the players seemed to have some sub-Saharan African ancestry. Several of the French players are obviously from sub-Saharan Africa judging by their appearance and names (whether immigrants or the children of immigrants from the former French colonies).
I’ll predict 3-1 France over Morocco.
Their fault. Survival of the fittest. At least here in the U.S., we have the Mormons and the Amish.
Looking at the roster of the French team, it looks like very few have traditionally French surnames. One looks German and a couple look Spanish. Of course sometimes families with a foreign-sounding name may have resided in that country for generations...a number of long-time English families have French surnames. The US has many families with German surnames which date back to colonial times. “Eisenhower” is one example (although originally spelled Eisenhauer—meaning a hewer of iron).
Morocco is playing so well, it’s going to be interesting to see how well they stand up to historically better teams.
The best player is Mbappe. I don’t think the surname is Gallic in origin...
My point was mainly they are not the African demographic. But I’m pretty positive, as with their Moslem brothers, they are mostly Arabic.
