PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers Hall-of-Famer Franco Harris has died at the age of 72, just days before the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception, sources confirmed to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4.
Harris played for the Steelers from 1972 to 1983 and was famous for that incredible play that won the Steelers their first playoff game 50 years ago.
Several events were planned in Pittsburgh in the days ahead marking the anniversary of The Immaculate Reception.
“ was famous for that incredible play ”
He wasn’t famous for that play alone. He was famous for being a great running back.
Awww, that is so sad. Rest in Peace.
You wonder if the nitwit who wrote that article knows anything about pro football. Franco Harris retired as the NFL’s all-time leading rusher, and the author acts like his career highlights consisted of one play.
PA Ping!
As a kid in the 70s, dad would take us to Steeler training camp in Latrine every summer. To a person, the players came across as very appreciative of their fans. Chuck Noll knew how to build a team, and while there were many great players, there were no prima donnas.
While I was sadly disappointed with Franco's political leanings late in life, I think him for the many dear childhood memories and lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship.
RIP #32
Latrobe, not Latrine. Damned autocorrect!
I think it was just to get something out below the headline, in order to break the story.
They were planning a big celebration for and with him for the 50th an anniversary of the Immaculate Reception.

Neil Armstrong was a great test pilot, aeronautical engineer, and military combat veteran, but he’s remember today for that one flight.
RIP Franco.
RIP, Mr. Harris.
Recall that play sitting and watching on Grandads floor with 6-8 cousins out in west Texas. RIP Franco.
Tru dat. The only steeler this ravens fan respected.
RIP
Condolences to family and friends of Franco Harris. R.I.P., sir.
I briefly met Franco while boarding an airplane in the late 1990’s. He was kind enough to share a few moments with my family and seemed to be a genuinely good guy.
Yes, In 1973 the Steelers had the draft of the century, five players who ended up in the Hall of fame. Harris was drafted in 1972, so no wonder the Steelers ruled the NFL through the decade.
NBC announced that they will honor Franco by showing a rerun of Heidi. Interrupting this weeks Pittsburg game with 2 min left in the came.
Made me think of this.
