The unedited video in your post 39 has audio that seems like the defender shot 9 times, some of which were when perp was on the ground and one after the defender had already picked up the perp’s gun.
You could also paint the slide a bright blue or yellow.
Some said it was a questionable shoot as the perp was leaving. That makes him a fleeing felon. What is Tejas law on shooting fleeing felons?
Which makes it a righteous and heroic shoot, in Texas.
Yeah, I don't know about Texas but in many other places, that's a definite no-no.
I still remember that pharmacist in Oklahoma, Jerome Ersland, who was sent away for life after shooting dead a robber who was already down.

The article makes it sound like the robber was heading out the door when he was shot. Or does tge video show him pointing his toy gun and the guy blows him away at that time?

I think everyone should see this video before commenting, because the video put out on the news makes it appear as if the guy took a single shot to drop the perp (in other words, a clean shoot).
This looks like a murder. The guy was down and appeared to be motionless; the gun was knocked out of his hand and out of reach.
All of the rules regarding the use of deadly force make it allowable to stop an action; this looks excessive, to say the least.

I'd call it a heat-of-the-moment thing and no-bill him. It's not like he walked away and came back several minutes later to do it.
Yup, there’s got to be a lot of adrenaline pumping through him at that moment, and when you have to make split second decisions, there’s not much time for second guessing yourself.
Plus, it happened FAST!
It’s not like he was getting in some range time and took his time about it to think things through.
The short amount of time for the first 8 shots IMO, is the adrenaline. The last one to the head? Well, I can’t read the shooter’s mind so will not presume the worst. Perhaps he wanted to make sure. Perhaps he thought it would be more merciful to put the guy out of his misery considering the damage he already did.

Just for the record I believe the original quote was “He needed killing” and came from the testimony taken during a murder trial in Kentucky. OTH in early Texas there would not have been a trial as this would constitute a public service.
Guess we all saw a different video. He had his gun pointed at another patron. Defense of an innocent 3rd party is legal and justified.
He could have just as easy turned around and started shooting whites .05 seconds later when the video stops and the shots are fired.
If you walk in on a robbery of say, a convenience store and the robber has a gun on the cashier, you, in Arkansas can shoot him in the back since he poses an imminent threat of deadly force upon another person.
The police should find the shooter and give him keys to the city.
He shot the robber nine times. I suspect they will find him.
