Former University of Alabama football player dies suddenly at 42

A second former football player has died suddenly in as many weeks.

Ahmaad Galloway, an eighth-grade English teacher and a running back at the University of Alabama from 1999 to 2002, was found dead at his apartment in St. Louis, Missouri, on Monday. He was 42 years old.

According to WVTM 13, officials at Compton-Drew Middle School arranged a welfare check at Galloway’s apartment after he failed to show up for class without notice. A medical examiner is currently investigating the cause of death.

“Ahmaad was always on time, very responsible, so we knew something might be wrong,” said principal Susan Reid. “There wasn’t anything disrupted at Ahmaad’s apartment, so we are thinking that it could have been a medical issue.”

Reid told TMZ that Galloway attended a student basketball game on the Saturday before his death and did not display any signs of trouble. Students have been paying tribute to their beloved teacher this week, making signs and banners while his classroom door stays shut, per WVTM…

I saw that too. I don’t need to click on and look at any of those reports. I just go by what has happened to people I know, or what has happened to people they know. Just in that circle of contacts the damage is obvious.

The most disappointing is the formerly healthy young mother, with two pre-teen kids, that since a few months after the pokes has had to be on a regular dose of a heart med.

Correction: the by far most disappointing incident is the Jan 2022 death of my wife’s niece at the age of 45 from clots. Had the shots, and was boosted just over month before she died.

If you're going to append CDC charts, might as well use the one they offer that shows predicted number of deaths by COVID verus predicted number of deaths from all causes.

Note that (a) the observed count of both was within their threshold of predicative error; and (b) the 'peaks' of death-by-COVID corresponded to the onset of Alpha, the onset of the Delta variant, and the onset of the Omicron variant.

Note also that the US appears to be in some sort of freefall this winter, a fairly rapid, unpredicted 'tailing-off' of deaths by both sources.
