If they arrive international, they do have to clear customs upon arrival on each end of the trip. But not at departure.

I don’t. In a previous life I used to work for that agency at the airport that annoys people. We used to find guns on a regular basis.

The only thing that kept her from being arrested was that CPS was full that evening so no place for her kids. The popo took the gun and wrote her a citation to appear.
She had the gall on the return trip to go up to the popo and demand her gun back. I was talking to the cop when she did that. He told her to GTFO and hire a lawyer for 10-15K so she could get her $500 gun back. She stormed off in a huff. LOL.
So someone being a dumb ass and leaving a gun in their carry on doesn’t surprise me at all.
If you are driving in Mexico and get pulled over, address the officer as “Captain” and hand him your license with a $20 folded underneath.

MEXICAN CUSTOMS AGENT: Good day, Sir. May I see your passport?

MEXICAN CUSTOMS AGENT: (frowning) I see. Excuse me, Sir. (summons another Mexican Customs Agent. After whispering, they call over a uniformed guard with an M-16) Sir, would you place your bag on the table over there please?
MR. BUSCH: Er, okay. Is there something wrong? I'm Kyle Busch, the race car driver. You know, "zoom-zoom" (makes steering motions with his hands)
MEXICAN CUSTOMS AGENT 2: (has a furrowed brow) Mr. Busch...that is your real name, right?

MEXICAN CUSTOMS AGENT 2: (testing substance) My God. This is a brick of Fentanyl. Mexico takes drug smuggling very seriously. Do you know what the penalty is in this country for drug smuggling, especially for Fentanyl?

Anymore (at least in Texas) if you get caught at screening you simply return the car to your vehicle and they issue a civil fine/summons

you are right- but i saw a blurb on another charge just recently- i think- i didn’t read the date on the blurb though- so maybe they were repeating the old article- ill check if any recent charges have been filed agaisnt him-
Places in the US this worked as recently as 2010 but it’s generally 200$ and not twenty
I don’t see any current news or charges on him except that he was gettign a divorce with his then wife accusing him of “Tortious” something or other- not sure what tortious means, but whatever-
Customs come out to the plane. They don’t check anything other than PAX manifest. That is unless someone wants to cause an incident.
