I’m a retired public school teacher, with more than a few bruises for breaking up fights. And let me tell you something you probably already know.

School administrators care about only one thing: public relations. They don’t give a damn about teacher safety, staff safety, or student safety. Their only goal is to make the school district look good. That’s it.

In my district we were forbidden to call the city police for help. It was a firing offense. If you dialed 911 on your classroom phone, it was automatically routed not to the 911 call center, but to the school district’s central office.

If you dialed 911 on your classroom phone, it was automatically routed not to the 911 call center, but to the school district’s central office.

Not sure when you retired, but that is a major league Federal offense. Heavy fines for doing that. 911 calls MUST be routed to a Public Safety Answering Point. Period. Doesn’t mean that other agencies or offices can’t be notified of the call when made. But the call MUST land at a PSAP.
