The thugs had opened the car door(s) and were trying to pull the kids out. The article says they were almost home, around the corner. So maybe the kids headed for their house. Hope they weren't followed.
Terrorizing kids—that is some depaved behavior there. Assuming any are caught, they'll probably all be out immediately on no-bail, charged with "disturbing the peace."
