She was murdered in 1996. They knew it wasn’t a family member in 1997. Why did they put the family through, especially the mother, the horrible suspicions for all this time? I don’t care how stupid the police looked, they shouldn’t have covered up evidence that exonerated the family.
There is a lot more to the story - there is still suspicion the mother wrote the ransom letter.
