3100 North Broad has been a war zone for 50 years. My wife graduated from LaSalle in 1982. It’s four blocks from Temple. Temple is sprawling and walking in the neighborhood is a reality. LaSalle is cloistered and self contained. Nobody has any reason to walk the surrounding area and nobody is on campus that doesn’t belong there as a student.

I was getting ready to say 50 years no way. Then realized that was about the mid-70s. Well after the evil traditional American society of the 50s had started disappearing in inner cities (sarcasm).

That area was somewhat dicey when I took classes at Temple years ago, but the campus felt safe. I didn’t ever venture there after dark, however.

I lived in Center City as did a few of my classmates and if you used common sense, that area was pretty decent and fun back then.
