Gondolas stranded in Venice as Italy faces danger of new drought
NY Post ^ | February 21, 2023 | Yaron Steinbuch

The iconic rowing boats have been left stranded after a winter of little rain and snow resulted in unusually low water levels in the canal-filled northeastern city.

Concerns also have mounted that Italy could be in for another drought after last summer’s emergency, according to the outlet, which cited scientists and environmental groups.

In addition to the lack of precipitation, arid conditions in Venice are being blamed on a high-pressure system, a full moon, low tides and unfavorable sea currents.

Gondolas and water buses known as vaporettos have been left high and dry as a result.

I thought Venice was supposed to be inundated due to the rising sea level generated by anthropogenic global warming.

Global warming is causing the oceans to evaporate faster than the melting polar caps can full them up. Also, racism!

In addition to the lack of precipitation, arid conditions in Venice are being blamed on a high-pressure system, a full moon, low tides and unfavorable sea currents.

Given that Venice's canals are fed from the Adriatic Sea, I don't think you can blame the lack of rain or globull warming.

But you can blame a freakish combination of strong winds, a full moon, low tides, and unfavorable sea currents.

Oh, it’s that time of the decade where we are going to get “Venice is drying up” stories, eh?

I guess 5 more years until we get the “Venice is going to be swallowed by the sea” stories again.

Oh no globull warming is drying up Venice. Where is saint Greta Thurnberg. They need to build a church in her name so the water will come back.

I’d be standing on the edge of the Grand Canal, with my metal detector in hand....just waiting for the bottom to dry enough to walk on. Can you imagine the history (and bodies) you’d discover? We’re talking Phoenician, baby!

“If you have no water, you cannot produce energy, so this is another problem,” Bratti told the Guardian.”

That’s the problem with water, wind, and solar. If you have a mine, you always have coal.

NOT TRUE -- PURE GLOBAL WARMING PROPAGANDA

Venice isn't in a lake, it's in a lagoon, a salt-water arm of the Adriatic sea.

The Venetian Lagoon (Italian: Laguna di Venezia; Venetian: Łaguna de Venesia) is an enclosed bay of the Adriatic Sea, in northern Italy, in which the city of Venice is situated. Its name in the Italian and Venetian languages, Laguna Veneta—cognate of Latin lacus, "lake"—has provided the English name for an enclosed, shallow embayment of salt water, a lagoon.

The lagoon is OPEN TO THE SEA.

Rainfall has NO EFFECT on the water levels in Venice (unless it's so severe that it changes the levels of the sea) because if the lagoon is low, the sea rushes in to fill it back up. And if the lagoon is over-full, it rushes out into the ocean.

This is nothing more that an unusually low tide (which is that you'd be told if you were sourcing a legitimate news source).

Maybe its a problem at the back end of some canals but i see vaporetti plying their way up and down unencumbered.

Check out Venice live cams...sure don’t look to be any problems...
