Are you ready for the fungal zombie apocalypse, just like the one on videogame-turned-hit-TV-show, The Last of Us?
That’s the shocking claim made Monday in WorldCrunch: “Having just gone through a pandemic where denialist political discourse turned a significant part of the population into something resembling zombies, the prospect of a new pandemic where a microorganism itself devours the victims’ brains is an unsettlingly real prospect.”
The author — I’ll get to her in a moment — reminded readers with seething condescension towards us “denialists” that some scientists believe that “humans should be less concerned about viruses and bacteria, and more afraid of fungi, which can control the behavior of insects.”
No, that doesn’t mean that our fungus-infected insect overlords will send us to toil in their underground sugar caves. Although as a trusted internet personality, I could be totally helpful in rounding others up for that.
What this means is, in theory, some super-fungus could take control of human behavior and make us eat each other’s brains like they do in that popular zombie apocalypse show that the author, Natalia Pasternak, has glommed on to in her 1,600-word fear-mongering article.

Why on earth would anything, fungal, viral, bacterial develop where it infects EVERYTHING and kills the host entirely?
Cordyceps, for instance, have colonies where reproduction is done through a single female laying tons of eggs. But this race- ending infection? It wouldn’t have an opportunity to reproduce.

Global warming would more likely make more of the planet habitable and open more of the planet habitation. Make growing seasons longer and support more life.

Stopped watching after episode 3. The director admitted to tricking the audience into watching the gay romance. Offensive on many levels. Loved the video game and was looking forward to series.
Still trying to figure out why he didn’t take more weapons. He should have at least grabbed the AK. The bolt action long rifle isn’t very handy in urban combat.
The horizon? It's already here. Just go to any dem run city and look around. Thousands of deados stumbling around, the walking dead are everywhere.

Agreed. We don’t even understand Prion diseases, how to detect them or even how to kill them. Autoclave won’t destroy trace amounts. I can promise the Chinese, USA and Europe are trying to understand and use ‘defend against them. Prions aren’t even alike but kill anyone infected just the same.

You’re not missing much. Even if you set aside the gay porn, the Last of Us is mediocre at best. The comparison a lot of people are making to the Walking Dead is apt - a whole lot of talking and crying with a sprinkle of banditry or zombie action thrown in. Oh, and season 2 is supposed to be based on the part II of the game, which is all kinds of gay propaganda, with the girl Ellie as a lesbian.
“Global warming?” That’s an intentional distraction. The problem is the international trade and tourism regime. Bugs that kill can travel fast and far during incubation periods. Then they can mutate repeatedly to kill large numbers of people again and again.
I felt the same way. In the latest episode, there’s reference to communism vs individual ownership. My spidey senses went up.
