That article does a fair job explaining the difference between the series 70 and 80. So what “series” are the Kimber types that have a completely different barrel bushing type?

P-85 MK-II Mine had 2-17 round mags with it. I supplemented with 2-35 round spares and it all fit nicely in the shoulder rig, pistol 17+1 on left and 1-17 mag in single pouch + 2-35 mags in double pouch I modified for the long mags on right. No printing with a shirt or jacket. I worked in Little Rock back then, had but t never had to use for any scumbags.

Before I added a few too many pounds to My frame-

There are, of course, complications with those designations. Modern Kimbers are basically Series 70s with something called a Swartz Safety installed that is somewhat similar to the Colt Series 80 firing pin safety changes. Older (pre-”Series II”) Kimber designs are straight up Series 70 designs and have no firing pin lock/block at all.

The ‘Series’ designations only strictly apply to Colt products. Other manufacturers adopted some, all or none of the changes between the Series. For non-Colt products, mostly the terms are used to distinguish between ones without a firing pin safety and ones that have one of some kind. It’s kind of a genericization, much like Kleenex or Xerox.

The original 1911 design is drop safe with the original spec firing pin *if* the cartridges it’s loaded with have military spec primers. The pin doesn’t have the mass or inertia to successfully detonate a military primer. Mil-spec primers are usually thicker-walled, made of a harder alloy and sometimes even domed/concave - they require a much higher energy than commercial primers to set off.

Commercial/civilian primers do not have to pass such testing and are much easier to set off. Depending on how ‘soft’ the civilian primer is, the 1911’s original weight/spec inertial firing pin can actually set it off in a muzzle drop.

To everyone…. Thanks so much for all the prayers and well wishes. It has been very moving! Surgery went good yesterday. I have a rod in my left shin. They insert it at the top and push it to just above the ankle. Line the foot up straight, put some screws in and you’re good to go. Crazy. Probably go home this afternoon. Weekend Dr said I had an “impressive” before x-ray. Ha. I’m told I can do anything I want and to “let pain be your guide”

Anyway, you guys are the very best!

BTW.. I have a gun for sale. Dont want that one. :)

Group Names Chicago, New Orleans as U.S. Murder Capitals

Chicago had more total homicides in 2022 than Philadelphia (516), New York City (438), Houston (435) and Los Angeles (382), which rounded out the top five, according to a report from Wirepoints, an Illinois-based research and news organization that surveyed 2022 crime data from 75 of the largest U.S. cities.

New Orleans had the highest homicide rate in the nation in 2022 with 74.3 homicides per 100,000 people. It was followed by St. Louis (68.2), Baltimore (58.1), Detroit (48.9) and Memphis (45.9), Wirepoints found.

Depends on he design of the firing pin. There are a number of revolver designs that aren’t drop safe either

While I’m sorry that you were shot, your post and responses did answer the question I had about carrying my Ruger LCP .380 with a round chambered.

Revolvers? I would agree but too bulky to put in my pocket. The LCP fits perfectly.
