It’s a common belief among auto mechanics and folks who work in the automobile service industry that it’s seldom a wise choice to buy new vehicles.
Basically the first purchaser of a new vehicle is going to
going to get the largest immediate drop in resale value. A
used vehicle doesn’t drop as fast as the new purchase drop.
THe depreciation on a NEW is, that once it’s titled, it’s considered USED. New goes to DMV with a certificate of Origin from the Manufacturer and it can’t be anything other than NEW.
Used is used. A little used or a lot used.
For me, it depends on the vehicle. European Luxury cars I buy new. Full size trucks I buy low milage used from Arizona/New Mexico. The domestics are as good as Toyota/Nissan in this category, maybe better, because parts are cheaper and more available with better aftermarket support.
As far as reliability goes Toyota is King.
Only makes sense if the vehicle holds its value well.
Wranglers and toyota tacomas are the only ones I know that fit that description off the top of my head
I had my truck serviced at the dealership last month and they gave me a ride home. When I got in their truck, I told the driver that they sure had some beautiful trucks on the lot and it was enough to give me the new truck fever. He said - Don't even look, we even make fun of these sticker prices. They have no shame asking upwards of $100 K for a new truck.
