Stealer's Wheel - Stuck In The Middle With You
Half a century at this time, March of 1973, a song by a band called Stealer's Wheel began climbing the charts with a song called "Stuck In The Middle With You".
Written by Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan, the song would peak on the Billboard Hot 100 at #6 on May 12th of that year.
Not too shabby.
19 years later, the song would get another surge in popularity by being featured in the Quentin Tarantino film "Reservoir Dogs."
Although the scene it was featured in, in which a policeman is brutally tortured, is hard to watch.
Gerry Rafferty would go on a few years later, in 1978, to massive worldwide success with a solo album called "City To City" featuring the mega-hit "Baker City". He would have other solid hits such as "Right Down The Line" and "Get It Right Next Time."
After that, Gerry would drift into reclusiveness and an alcoholic haze, dying in 2011 (age 63) of liver failure. It was a sad end to a brilliant musical career.
One of the best albums ever, Jerry died early—he drank too much.
Wasn’t the mega hit Baker Street, not Baker City?
I had the album "City To City" in my mind.
correct.
It’s posts like that that makes me wish FR had a like button.
One of my all time favorite movies
whenever i hear that song, i always think of the scene where Michael Madsen cuts off Kirk Baltz’s officer Nash’s ear and prepares to light him on fire after dousing Nash with gasoline ... that is the ONLY time i’ve ever shut my eyes while watching a movie or TV, as i was absolutely convinced that was going to happen ...
Reservoir Dogs is a classic Tarantino masterpiece ...
Stuck In The Middle With You - Cover - Josh Turner & Friends
As covers go this one's pretty good ;o)~
That’s an excellent song, fast, fun and with a crackin beat. You dont even need to be fluent in English to like it.
I always thought the band was spelled
Steeler’s Wheel, you know, with most wheels being made out of steel.
Doesn’t matter.
“Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right...”
Absolutely perfect description of congress today.
Danceable too.
I always thought that this song was by the Steve Miller band.
“Written by Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan”
There we go. Very talented. Gerry Rafferty is one of the most underrated artists of the last 50 years.
This is One Of The Songs I Hate.
My ears are still bleeding.
Me, too. Being a Dallas native, I’m partial to the Steve Miller Band. I guess they did it as a cover, but I can’t find when it was released. That’s the only version I’ve ever known.
Tarantino hit the Mark with That One,,,
Baker Street.
